CHURCH bells across Oxford will ring out to mark the Royal Wedding, with volunteers touring colleges and churches in one of the biggest celebrations since the 1980s.

Christ Church’s Great Tom bell, the loudest in Oxford, will be rung at 12:15, as Prince William and his new princess emerge on the steps of Westminster Abbey.

That will start an afternoon of bell ringing across the city.

A team of some 20 bellringers from the Oxford Society of Change Ringers will ring the bells at Lincoln College, Merton College, Carfax tower, St Mary Magdalen Church, Christ Church cathedral, St Aldate’s Church and New College will be rung in turn between 12.30pm and 8pm.

Church bells will also be rung at villages in Oxfordshire during the day.
