I thought your headline Health bosses and the £12k hotel bill” (Oxford Mail, April 15) was rather cruel. Being a health authority, it should know better than most the dangers of drink driving.

How can you expect these wonderful hard-working people to go to a top class venue and take all those refreshment breaks without having a drink?

After all, it must be very stressful attending a development meeting when there are cuts being made which affect those most in need.

Whether from the NHS, councils or the Government , it is very difficult to get spending cuts right, and no doubt a few jars might make it easier.

After all, if you have a clear head you see things differently and you may start thinking about what, and who, is affected most and that would never do.

How can you expect the decision makers to cut their own perks? Remember the MPs’ expenses fiasco?
