Sir – I could not believe what the environmental services department was telling me when I asked for the vermin control officer to visit.

Astonishingly, but presumably in order to sound good in the debating chamber, a number of councillors have introduced a charge for the call-out to manage vermin in the city. Rats are a health hazard. If the council applies a charge then people will not bother reporting infestations and before long, the city will be advertising for a Pied Piper, at presumably, £250,000 per annum!

The lack of transparency in council legislature prevents the people from finding out who makes what decisions at the council.

Can we please have total transparency in council dealings so that the people know who is responsible for decisions made.
