TRAIN enthusiasts from Didcot Railway Centre took a trip to North Wales to try out their newly-restored vintage steam railmotor.

The only surviving Great Western Railway railmotor, No 93 made its debut on the Llangollen Railway in the Dee Valley last month.

The 1908-built railmotor arrived at Llangollen station to take invited guests to a reception at Carrog, seven miles away.

Great Western Society spokesman Adrian Brodie said: “Every detail of the period interior has been faithfully recreated.

“Fabric for the roller blinds has been specially woven in Holland, seating moquette has been made to the original pattern and the gas lights have been recreated.”

The Llangollen Railway is a route the railmotor worked 90 years ago.

After finishing its original stint in 1934, No 93 was converted to auto trailer 212 and withdrawn from passenger service in 1956. It was then converted to an office until 1970, when it was bought by a GWS member in the hope that it could be restored.

The train is set to return to Didcot to make its public debut at the railway centre on Saturday, May 28.
