Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted handbag snatch in the Highlands area of Banbury.

At 10.10pm on Wednesday, a woman parked her vehicle on Ferriston, when she was approached by a youth, who was in a group with other youths.

He tried to grab the woman’s handbag from her shoulder, but the woman screamed loudly and ran off, causing the offender to run off the direction of Highlands.

The suspect is black, medium build, 5ft 7in tall, and was possibly wearing a beanie-style hat.

PC Craig O’Leary said: “I am appealing to any residents in the street that heard a woman screaming or saw the incident happen to come forward with any information.

“I would also appeal to any members of the group of teenagers who were seen by the victim to come forward if they have information.”
