I AM writing with regard to John Tanner’s letter (Oxford Mail, April 12, Pay for garden waste).
When we were first issued with a green sack for garden waste I was told that we could buy ‘as many as we liked for £7.50 each’. I bought two more but still couldn’t get my garden waste in.
Now we are expected to pay £35, yearly, for a brown bin.
My husband and I are OAPs and not as healthy as we used to be.
Our pensions have not risen to keep up with the cost of living and yet everything has gone up substantially, including gas, electricity and food.
As you walk through the streets you are confronted with wheelie bins in front gardens everywhere, even if there are side entrances to keep them at the back of the houses.
In the old days there was only one refuse lorry, now there are more – therefore more fuel is used and more manpower is needed.
I know it is a good idea to recycle, but with every household paying £35 I would like to see a breakdown of how this money is being used.
PS: Would anyone like to buy my redundant sacks?
