CARRY on running – that’s the motto of an Abingdon soldier and his brother who are planning to break a record on Sunday by running the London Marathon dressed as a doctor and nurse.

The pair aim to raise at least £2,000 for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, which supports soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need.

Staff Sgt Glenn Aitchison, 38, a soldier with the Royal Logistic Corps, is based at Dalton Barracks in Abingdon, and has served in Afghanistan, Iraq and Bosnia.

His brother Darren, 41, is a former Royal Engineer.

The brothers broke the Guinness World Record for running a half-marathon dressed as a doctor and a nurse at the Fleet Half Marathon in Hampshire last month.

Otherwise known as the Medical Brothers, the pair have their sights set on breaking the current world record time for running a marathon dressed as a doctor and a nurse.

Father-of-two Glenn, who joined the Army in 1989, said: “We look like something out of a Carry On film but we will keep on running to try to break the record.

“I run as the nurse and Darren runs as the doctor, and I need to beat the time of three hours and 28 minutes while Darren needs to beat the time of four hours and sixteen minutes.

“I need to run eight-minute miles to beat the time but I am confident that we can do it.”

He said the charity needed funds as it had seen a 30 per cent rise in people seeking help in recent years.

Mr Glenn said: “I have done a number of events in the past for service charities but I feel that the Soldiers’ Charity is one that really supports both soldiers and their families.

“It doesn’t matter when you served or where you worked, if you were in the Army, the Soldiers’ Charity will support you.”
