A THREE-DAY Festival of Flowers was held in the village church and manor house in 1966. It was thought it was the first time the manor house, owned by Dr and Mrs Bernard Rose, had been opened to the public. Mr HL Dunkley, headmaster of the village school, is seen in the first picture with a display which graced the church stove.

Thirteen mothers and two grandmothers volunteered to help the village school’s four teachers in 1976 – everything from tying shoelaces and mixing paints to telling stories and listening to children read. Some of them are seen in the second picture.

The village won the medium class in the Oxfordshire best-kept village competition in 1986 for the second time and actor Bob Arnold, alias Tom Forrest in the BBC radio series, The Archers, in the centre of the third picture, came along to present the award.
