BRIAN Macken has been showing Oxford children just how wizard science is with shows that combine magic and everyday science.

Mr Macken, who has a physics degree, uses magic tricks to show children how science influences their lives at The Science Of Magic shows at Science Oxford, London Place.

He said: “The main thing that we hope is that they have a nice time and then that they come away having been shown how impressive science is.”

One of Mr Macken tricks involves showing how water does not escape from a hole in a plastic bottle because of differences in air pressure outside and inside the bottle.

Pictured waiting for Mr Macken to unplug the hole in the bottle are from left, Finn Shearman, eight, Owen Williams, nine, Rhys Williams, eight, and Evan Williams, eight.

Owen said: “It was really good and really exciting. The guy was really funny. We liked the thing where there was the nail in the bottle.”

Mr Macken said: “The crowds have been really good, and we have had some really clever children come along.”

The show will return to Science Oxford on Tuesday, April 19.
