CHILDREN in Banbury with a talent for singing are being urged to join a new choir and belt out their favourite tunes.

The community project, called Pop Choir on the Hill, is being organised by the OYAP Trust – the county’s youth arts charity.

It is hoped to attract up to 50 singers, aged from nine to 18, to join the choir.

The project follows hot on the heels of a successful adult community choir initiative launched last year as part of the Creative Bretch Hill Project, which now has about 20 core members.

The choir will be launched tomorrow, at an event taking place at the Hill Centre, in Bretch Hill, between 2pm and 5pm.

Those attending the event will be able to have a go at singing, get some expert advice from professional singing teacher Emma Brown and learn about the Arts Award scheme, a national range of qualifications for young people at three levels, bronze, silver and gold.

After today’s launch, the youth choir is set to meet on the second Friday of each month to rehearse a variety of songs and to work towards the Bronze Arts Award.
