IT IS true that you can’t always choose your neighbours.

But you should be able to make a well-informed decision about the type of area and the type of people you are likely to live near.

It is possible to pick a street, for example, full of family-sized houses.

Or a neighbourhood filled with modern apartments, shops or bars.

So the idea that Ministry of Justice officials have picked two undisclosed locations in Oxford for bail hostels will worry many people.

If these hostels are nothing to worry about, then why can’t we be told where they are?

To treat the public with such disdain that we cannot be trusted with such information is patronising.

Surely the rights of law-abiding residents should come above those of convicted criminals?

Or do Government bosses have something to hide?
