POLICE have warned drivers who park badly outside two Oxford schools they will continue to be hit with fines when the summer term starts.

Officers are issuing £30 fines outside St Christopher’s Primary in Temple Road, Cowley, and Oxford Spires Academy in Barracks Lane.

They said they had warned or fined 16 motorists caught obstructing roads, paths or blocking junctions in just two weeks outside the schools.

PC Tony Kirby, said: “All incidences have been created by poor and inconsiderate parking and a failure to understand the junction ahead.

“We ask all to be more considerate in their driving and parking outside the schools.

“Remember, for every action there is a reaction and our reaction will be to issue fixed penalty notices, costing the driver £30.

“Further fixed penalty notices will be given out to vehicles causing an obstruction.”

St Christopher’s headteacher Alison Holden said: “With the growing school roll over the last three years, access to our school has become more difficult.

“When I first arrived here in 2005 there was 151 pupils and now there are 390.”

The police warned they would continue to monitor both areas and said more fines would be issued if motorists carried on causing an obstruction.

Mrs Holden said: “The local community police are on duty quite a lot outside school to deter parents from parking on the zigzags. They are brilliant.”

She added: “Parents do find it difficult to find somewhere to park. As the head it is a huge balance between supporting them and the local residents.

“I try to remind parents about being considerate towards the local residents through our newsletters.”

There are currently two entrances to the school.

Mrs Holden said: “I really try to remind parents at both ends of entrances to be mindful.

“If there was anything I could do I would do it, but I can’t wave a magic wand.”

Sue Croft, who has been Principal of Spires Academy since January, said she was unaware of police cracking down on the problem outside the school.

But she added parking was a problem in the area.
