A MAN was threatened with a bottle and had a wheelie bin repeatedly thrown at his head in a street fight.

Rudy Pollard was attacked as he cycled in Oxford Road, Cowley, on December 29.

Tamir Mutwali and a 17-year-old boy were sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday after admitting assault causing actual bodily harm. Judge Mary Jane Mowat prevented the Oxford Mail from identifying the teenager.

Cathy Olliver, prosecuting, said the youth had asked the victim for cigarettes as 26-year-old Mutwali tried to take Mr Pollard’s bike.

She said the youth “removed a glass whisky bottle from his jacket and waved it around” before the pair followed the victim into a garden when Mutwali punched him and the teenager threw the bin at his head.

Both defendants, who listened through a Pidgin English interpreter, said there was provocation and racist insults aimed at them.

Jonathan Coode, defending the teenager, said he had failed in an asylum bid and was set to be deported.

Sumita Mahtab-Shaikh, defending Mutwali, of Oliver Road, Cowley, said he was “very sorry for his behaviour”.

The 17-year-old was given 12 months’ supervision and told to pay £50 compensation. Mutwali was given 12 months’ supervision, 150 hours’ unpaid work and told to pay £150 compensation.
