A 57-year-old man was taken to hospital after suffering a ‘medical episode’ which caused his car to veer off the road and plough into the side of a house, causing an estimated £50,000 worth of damage.

The incident happened on the corner of Lancaster Close and Boston Road, Bicester, at about 2pm last Friday.

Owner Trish Dudley said she was in the porch of her house when the crash happened.

Mrs Dudley, 57, said: “I had just put the rubbish in the bin and was in the porch when I heard a big bang and debris fell on my head.

“There were cracks up all of the walls inside. I was just in shock.

“I had to climb out of the window to get out because I was trapped in the house.”

Mrs Dudley said a structural engineer came within hours and warned her and husband Derek the damage could cost in the region of £50,000 to repair.

Mrs Dudley’s Peugeot car, which was parked in the drive at the front of the house, may also have to be written off.

It was not the first time the property has been stuck by a vehicle. In the 13 years the couple have lived at the address two cars and a motorbike have driven into the fence, which faces Boston Road. Oxfordshire County Council has changed the road markings and put up signs warning people about the bend.

Mrs Dudley added: “At the end of the day it is just a house.

“If it had happened an hour later it could have been awful as all the kids come out of school and walk past here.

The driver of the Toyota involved is in a stable condition in the John Radcliffe Hospital. No charges have been made.
