Sir — Battling with the rabbit warrens of the John Radcliffe, Churchill and Nuffield hospitals, Oxford, put me thinking back to the dear old Radcliffe.

They had an excellent volunteer guider scheme of about 12 persons stationed on the main desk, who knew the place inside out and walked you to your destination — the appropriate department then rang for a guide back again.

So much easier, cheaper, and a lot less stressful. Could not the hospitals reconsider this idea — those with a good sense of direction need not take advantage.

Any tips given were generated back into hospital funds, generating some income.

It is a scheme I think both hospitals and outpatients could benefit from immensely.
