THE M40 will be closed southbound until at least midday after an accident this morning.

At around 8am two vans are believed to have crashed on the southbound carriageway between junction six for Watlington and five for Stokenchurch.

One person is believed to have been airlifted from the scene.

Both carriageways were fully closed by 8.30am but it is believed the northbound stretch has now been reopened.

The southbound carriageway is likely to stay closed until mid afternoon for investigation and recovery work.

Traffic should divert via the A34 and M4.
