You are never too young to get involved at Abingdon Prep. Our extra-curricular, or Other Half activities, are available to all age groups although they are obviously tailored to suit abilities and ages.

Our younger pupils enjoy art, ceramics, chess and ICT clubs and join in choir, orchestra, judo and tennis.

These activities are in addition to the music, art, games, ICT, French, PE and swimming lessons that they enjoy as part of the lesson timetable.

From Reception onwards, Abingdon Prep pupils benefit from excellent facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, art studio, music and drama rooms, an ICT suite and acres of space to play, including woodland, an adventure playground and gardens.

At Abingdon Prep we enhance the curriculum with regular visiting speakers and an extensive variety of trips ranging from local days out to residential stays abroad.

This term, our younger boys have already enjoyed a visit from a space engineer from the Oxford Science Centre, trips to the INTECH Planetarium and a visit from the Puppet Theatre.

From an early age, boys are encouraged to explore new interests and make the most of the wide range of opportunities available to them.

Our pre-prep facilities are currently undergoing a complete refurbishment which will benefit all our younger pupils.

The new outside learning area for Reception and Year 1 offers a stimulating teaching environment in addition to the classroom, with sand and water and there is also a new playground.

Our pre-prep department has an enormous amount to offer, not only in the teaching and activities available during the school day, but also with the ‘wraparound care’ we offer through breakfast and after-school clubs, including a dedicated after-school club for our younger children.

Abingdon Prep is opening its doors this term to visitors who would like to see and learn more about the school’s phonics teaching, Read, Write Inc.

Speaking about this new initiative, Mike Rees the acting headmaster, said, ‘We are extremely proud of the innovative teaching that takes place throughout Abingdon Prep and we are inviting visitors to come and see our phonics work in action.

“The new-style phonics teaching has had very impressive results and it is great to see how much our youngest pupils are enjoying it.”

Prospective parents and other interested visitors are invited to see the phonics demonstration, talk to staff and tour the school at our phonics open morning on Tuesday, March 15, starting at 9.30am.
