WE hate to be seen as po-faced but we can’t see JACK FM’s marry a stranger competition has any merit whatsoever.

Two Strangers and a Wedding is a competition being run by the radio station which will see a bride chosen by the station and her relatives and friends, who will then try to pick a suitable spouse from the male competitors.

They will meet blindfolded but will not actually clap eyes on each other until the big day.

The station says it’s an experiment into whether love is blind but we don’t buy it.

Love is not blind.

There has to be a certain amount of physical attraction otherwise a marriage will not work. You don’t need such an experiment because we all know what the result of two people who get on but do not find the other attractive is: friendship.

This competition is what exactly what it appears to be: a promotional stunt for the radio station.

That’s fine but trying to portray this as an experiment ignores the fact you are dealing with people’s lives.

Who realistically is going to enter such a competition – and will JACK FM be around to pick up the pieces?
