Sir – May I add a further suggestion to the Age UK Give an Hour campaign. The WRVS books-on-wheels service is a lifeline to the elderly and housebound who find it difficult to visit a library.
As a volunteer for the past 12 years I find this rewarding, both in choosing the books and spending a few hours befriending on a regular basis.
With the imminent closure of libraries and some day centres for the elderly, this service is invaluable to book lovers.
