I WOULD like to add my two penneth to your story Parking Misery (Oxford Mail, February 24).

Those who are using the streets of Old Marston as a car park have no consideration whatsoever for the residents, and many have no regard for road safety.

As councillor Wally Cox implies, there is an accident waiting to happen, be it between two vehicles, or a vehicle and a child.

Those who park right on the junctions, even on the radius of the corners, obstruct passage and view for everyone. As these roads are the routes to the local school, the sooner these park and riders are restricted, the better.

We were to have parking restrictions put in place in February, but because of the potholes, no lines appeared.

When eventually these parking restrictions are in place, these park and riders will only park further around the estate. Some of them work at the John Radcliffe Hospital and in the town, but many are also Oxford Brookes University students. This we know for a fact as they arrive and leave at varying times carrying their portfolios, and during the holidays there are very few cars around here.

Perhaps Brookes could build car parking for their students on any land that’s left along Marston Road, this would help solve parking congestion considerably.

A lot of the grass verges are getting chewed up by all these non-residents and cyclists. Young and old ride on the pavements for safety but they in turn have no consideration for pedestrians.

The whole situation is a mess caused by supposedly intelligent people who appear not to have the sense they were born with.

The worst road on the estate is Raymond Road, the approach road to the school. Potholes have been filled in time and time again but the severe weather has really taken its toll on this road surface.

The pavements are terrible in places and are breaking away near the kerbs with a lot of the sets becoming loose. When it rains there are as many puddles on the pavement as there are on the road.

The whole of Raymond Road is an absolute disgrace. Perhaps the council could completely resurface the road and pavements, as it did in Arlington Drive and Cavendish Drive.

Had it not spent £45,000 last year filling in a perfectly useful subway in Headington, it could have done Raymond Road.
