YOGA, tai chi and Hawaiian dancing helped people on an Oxford estate embrace healthy lifestyles.
The Barton Neighbourhood Centre hosted its first Live Well day to showcase different activities taking part in the community and offer advice on healthy living.
Organiser Vicki Galvin said: “It went really well.
“We had higher numbers than expected, so this is definitely something we would like to introduce in Blackbird Leys and Barton.
“These events are about getting people out of their houses to see what is out there for them.
“One lady came along from Bradford and said she would be going home and telling her council to set up something similar too.”
The event was organised by the Barton Community Association with the help of the Get Oxfordshire Active project, known as Go Active.
Other activities included a boxing class and walk around the estate.
Amy Thakurdas, 53, from Kidlington – pictured left with Hannah Halford and Roz Smith – was teaching people Hawaiian dance, yoga and tai chi.
She said: “People in the classes seemed to be really enjoying themselves.
“Hawaiian dance, or hula, is really popular in other countries, but has never taken off here.
“It’s a great way to get fit.
“From what I have seen of Go Active’s work, they are doing a fantastic job getting people in places like Barton interested in sport.”
