A third car may have been involved in a crash on the M40 this morning where a woman was taken to hospital.

At 10.10am a green Volkswagen Beetle and a white Vauxhall Astra collided as they were travelling south between junctions 10 for Brackley and nine for Bicester.

The driver of the Volkswagen Beetle, a woman, was taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe for treatment although her injuries are not believed to be serious.

Pc Richard Medway, from Bicester Roads Policing Department, said: “It is possible that there may be a third vehicle involved in the collision which didn’t stop at the scene.

“We are also keen to trace the driver of a white curtain-sided lorry, with Krato Chivil written on the side in red.

“It is possible that the driver carried on travelling southbound but could have turned off on the A34 towards Oxford.”

There was congestion in the area while the motorway was closed but it has reopened and traffic is now running smoothly.

Anyone with any information should call Pc Richard Medway on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
