AN 18-year-old man was hospitalised following an assault by two people outside Oxford Ice Rink last night.

The attackers were part of a group of eight to ten youths when the assault happened at about 10.20pm, police said.

Officers said the victim was leaving the Oxpens Road ice rink and had reached the bottom entrance when the assault took place.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious head injuries and his condition was last night described as serious but not life threatening.

Investigating officer Det Con Karl Ralph said: “This was a nasty and unprovoked assault, which has left the victim with serious injuries.

“I urge anyone who witnessed the assault, saw the youths hanging around at the ice rink, or who has any information to contact me.”

Thames Valley Police said it did not know whether the attackers or the group had been at the ice rink.

Anyone with any information should contact Det Con Ralph on 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
