Superintendent Amanda Pearson, Local Police Area Commander for Oxford, will be attending the ‘Join Me on the Bridge’ campaign to mark the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day.

Women, men and children across the world will be joining together on a bridge near them, holding up banners asking for an end to violence against women in war-torn countries, and for them to have better representation at the peace table.

The Oxford student branch of Women for Women International will be meeting under the Bridge of Sighs at noon on March 8.

There will be a group walk and cycle to the bridge from University Parks, leaving at 11.45am and culminating at noon under the bridge.

Music from female artists will be played and we will hear stories of inspirational women past, present and future. A fundraising raffle will also be drawn.

Amanda will be joined by Inspector Ali Gunston of the Special Constabulary, and Chinta Kallie from Thames Valley Police’s Diversity Board.

Superintendent Amanda Pearson said: “I am very much looking forward to the event. Thames Valley Police is an equal opportunities employer and supports the work of the Women for Women society.

“We warmly invite members of the community and the media to come along and take part in the event.”
