A £550,000 study block has been opened at an Abingdon comprehensive school.

The ICT, Enterprise and Sixth Form Centre was officially opened at Fitzharrys School after a six-month facelift, thanks to a Government grant.

Oxford West and Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood, who attended the event, is pictured meeting pupils Oliver Joyce, 13, left, and Alex Dawson, 13.

The block has two ICT rooms with 60 computers, classrooms and a common room for the school’s 140 sixth-formers and their colleagues at Larkmead and John Mason schools and Abingdon & Witney College.

Jonathan Dennett, headteacher at the Northcourt Road school, said: “The centre will make a real difference to the opportunities we can offer all our students.”

Alex Dawson said: “The block is much better than the old one. It’s more hi-tech.”

Ms Blackwood said: “It was clear how excited the students were about the opportunities it will offer them.”
