AN open day to show the public what research is being carried out at Oxford’s hospitals will be held next month.

On Thursday, March 17, between 3pm and 7pm, the John Radcliffe Hospital will be open to the public.

There will be opportunities to visit interactive stands and meet the people who carry out the research.

The event is being held as part of the Oxfordshire Science Festival Week.

From 5pm there will be the chance to speak to the experts who are using the latest medical rechnology.

Topics will include how sight may be restored in a ‘bionic eye’ trial, how surgeons are using high-intensity sound waves to heat up and destroy cancer cells and how robotic surgical devices are so precise that they can peel a grape without damaging the flesh.
