A RECRUITMENT manager will put his best foot forward for charity when he attempts to climb Kilimanjaro.
Dan Wellings, 24, from Headington, will be scaling Africa’s highest mountain for Action for Children.
He said: “Action For Children came to my company and asked ‘who wants to walk up Kilimanjaro?’.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something amazing and raise cash for a great cause.”
Mr Wellings will set off on June 4 with 30 members of his company, Hays, from around the UK.
Mr Wellings, who works in the Oxford High Street branch, aims to raise more than £4,000 for the six-day hike, which will then be doubled by his employer.
He said: “We have done lots of different things to help raise money, including pub quizzes and raffles for clients. All my colleagues have really got behind me, which has been fantastic.”
But he said the training was already becoming a daunting task as he prepared to tackle the 5,895m (19,341ft) summit, in north-eastern Tanzania.
He said: “June is scarily coming around very fast. I go to the gym a lot anyway, but I’ve been doing a lot more running and leg training. But the problem is the altitude sickness. You can’t tell how it will affect you until you are there.”
Action For Children works with more than 156,000 vulnerable young people and their famillies in the UK.
Spokesman Joseph Howes said: “We are delighted that Hays staff have chosen to climb Kilimanjaro for us.”
