CHILDREN in Blackbird Leys joined thousands of youngsters across the UK in a bid to smash a world singing record.
Pupils at Mabel Prichard Special School, in St Nicholas Road, joined in the ‘Sign 2 Sing’ event with more than 380 other schools at 2.45pm on Wednesday.
The song of choice was, appropriately, The New Seekers’ 1970s hit I’d like to Teach the World to Sing.
The 120 pupils were taking part in an attempt to break the record for the most children taking part in a simultaneous sing-song.
An estimated 100,000 took part, easily breaking the existing world record of 13,418, though final confirmation has yet to be given.
The event was organised by deafness charity Sign Health.
Teaching assistant Marie Langton said: “They really enjoyed it. I think when children sing they listen more and they learn through music.”
