Living next door to a waterfall is highly recommended, according to one South Oxfordshire family.

Richard and Amber Stammers bought Mill Stream House when it was built nine years ago as part of a new homes development on the old mill site at Drayton.

But now they have reluctantly put the house on the market, as they need to move nearer to Abingdon, where their children, James, nine, and six-year-old Ella are at school.

Mr Stammers, managing director of Wallingford-based company Douglas Delabie, which supplies thermostatic controls, said: “The house is in a lovely setting, with the mill stream in front of us and the waterfall close enough to hear.

“It is incredibly tranquil, and we have really enjoyed out time here, because it is a very friendly community to be part of. We will be sorry to leave.”

Mr Stammers and his wife, a financial controller, have put their own stamp on the property, which was built by Bloor Homes.

He said: “We landscaped the back garden and spent a lot of time putting in an outdoor eating zone and children’s play area. We also installed an outdoor hot tub and wooden decking.

“We took out the kitchen and replaced it with solid wood units and marble worktops and added underfloor heating to that room and the bathrooms.

The three-storey house includes six bedrooms, three with en-suites, and the master has two dressing rooms. On the ground floor is a drawing room, dining room, family room, study and a kitchen/breakfast room.

Four bedrooms are on the first floor, with the other two on the second.

At the back of the house is a south-facing walled garden, with a patio and the lawns that surround the property border Mill Brook.

Graham MacDonald, of agents Kemp & Kemp, said: “If you are looking for a large home and need quick, easy access to Milton Park or Didcot railway station, this is perfect.

“It is in superb condition, as it is impeccably maintained.”

Mill Stream House, in Drayton Mill, is on the market for £799,000. For more information, or to arrange a viewing, contact agents Kemp & Kemp, on 01865 510000, or visit kempandkemp.co.uk
