A STORY inspired by an old house at Water Eaton, on the outskirts of North Oxford, is to be released as a film next year.
How I Live Now will be directed by Kevin MacDonald, who made Idi Amin biopic The Last King of Scotland and documentaries Touching the Void and the Oscar-winning One Day in September.
Author Meg Rosoff said the house was “the most beautiful house you’ve ever seen, with a wood-panelled library and a beautiful walled garden, big white walls and a Tudor rose growing up it”.
The 2003 novel revolves around an extraordinary, ancient house and tells the story of 15-year-old Daisy after she arrives in England from New York as an international conflict brews.
The screenplay has been co-written by Jeremy Brock, who also wrote Mrs Brown, The Last King of Scotland and Kevin MacDonald’s soon-to-be-released film The Eagle.
Tony Grisoni, who also wrote the screenplay for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas also contributed. A cast has yet to be announced and the film will be released in 2012. The author will speak at the Oxford Literary Festival in April.
