TWENTY firefighters attended a fume scare at Begbroke Science Park today.
They were called at 6.36am to reports of excessive fumes in a laboratory at the Sandy Lane, Yarnton facility.
Two firefighters entered the unoccupied building and found a foundry containing 150kgs of molten zinc boiling over, creating a dense vapour.
The gas and electric supply was cut off to prevent further heating of the zinc and the building was ventilated with a positive pressure ventilation fan.
One person was checked at the scene by paramedics for possible zinc inhalation.
Three fire engines attended.
Incident commander Mike Bingham said: “The rapid response of the fire and rescue crews undoubtedly helped minimize the effects of the vapour leak enabling this facility to return to normal, as soon as possible with no injuries sustained.”
