Oxford United have signed one player, and let one go out, on transfer deadline day today.

The U's have signed 26-year-old left winger Simon Hackney on loan from Colchester until the end of the season.

This comes after the move to sign Jennison Myrie-Williams fell through.

International clearance was refused for Myrie-williams after it was discovered that the 22-year-old had already played for two professional clubs, Dundee and St Johnstone, this season.

Hackney made 126 appearances for Carlisle before joining Colchester two years ago.

U's boss Chris Wilder said: "Simon is a player who will excite the fans. He gives us pace and natural left-footed balance."

Meanwhile, United striker Matt Green has joined Cheltenham Town on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old, who scored the opening goal in United's Play-Off final win over York at Wembley last May, has found his opportunities limited this season, and has made just nine starts.

Wilder said: "Matt came to me to discuss his options after we signed Macca (Steve MacLean) for the rest of the year.

"He felt his playing opportunities were going to be limited, especially with the forwards ahead of him playing so well, so we decided it would be best for him to get out there, playing, and hopefully finding the back of the net.

"Cheltenham is a decent club, so I think it works for everyone at this time."
