Jenson on the Button for League Leaders

Jenson Wright scored twice as unbeaten league leaders Horspath continued their march to the title with a hard-fought but merited victory over a game Kidlington team.

The visitors won the first game 4-0. Home keeper Joe Keighery did well to save Larrson Wirdnam-Crick's shot, but Harley Giles swept home the rebound. Keighery was injured in the melee and had to go off after conceding a second, a brilliant solo goal from Wright. Thomas Anderson took over in goal and made an excellent diving save before being beaten by Wright's second, a shot from outside the box, just before half time.

The second half was more even, with tireless skipper Ben Stewart and tough-tackling defender Will Baker prominent for the home side. Keighery returned to keep goal but could do nothing about Horspath's fourth - an excellent passing move down the pitch, finished in style by former Kidlington player, Wirdnam-Crick.

The second game was closer, and home hopes of a comeback were raised when Ethan Couling put Kidlington ahead with a fine shot from the left after an excellent long pass from Marcus Tranter. Kidlington created further chances, but failed to take them. The Kidlington defence of Archie Littlewood and Abu Yillah looked solid with the impressive Tranter protecting them well from the midfield, and the home team went into half time 1-0 up.

In the second half Tranter, Littlewood and new arrival Ben Merrill all played well defensively, but Horspath began to get on top and take control of the game. They equalised through a long range effort from Alex Wilde and won the second game in somewhat fortuitous circumstances when a cross from Darren Smith took a cruel deflection off a Kidlington player and ricocheted into the net. Late on home keeper Archie Devlin made a fine save and Tranter cleared off the line to prevent further damage, but ultimately it made little difference, as Horspath confirmed their status as title favourites with a strong overall display, despite a battling performance by the home side.
