HUNDREDS of young people twisted, moonwalked and hopped their way to glory at a national dance competition in Blackbird Leys yesterday.

The Oxfordshire Streetdance Championships at the Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre attracted more than 900 competitors and fans from across the UK. Kelly Chandler, co-organiser and owner of KC’s School of Dance in Oxford, said: “This is a really huge event in the street dance calendar.

“People come from across the country to compete for a place in the European championships, and we’ve had a few Oxford winners.”

Among the team from KC’s, above, was eight-year-old Leya Parsons, from Blackbird Leys, front, centre, wearing a hat, who competed with friend Macey Ward, also eight.

Macey, far left in the second row, took third place in the street dance solo section.

Leya said: “I really enjoyed it, we had lots of fun. My favourite part was when Macey won and we all clapped her when she went to get her trophy.”
