The game initially looked in doubt due to the solid pitch and freezing temperatures but both teams had made the effort to turn out and the game went ahead.

Cholsey took a bit of time to warm up and get into the swing of the game. There were a few breaks by Cholsey, notably by William, Freddy and Jo but there was no real support to worry Abingdon’s defence. Cholsey were lucky not to go down one nil when Abingdon, square in front of goal, chipped the keeper and the bar; another Abingdon break was charged down by Jack.

The second half saw Cholsey taking the game to Abingdon; Joe made break after break down the wing but Cholsey were unable to take any shots at goal to concern Abingdon’s keeper. Jack stopped a great shot by Abingdon and Dylan did well in defence to get back and frustrate Abingdon’s forwards.

Within the last five minutes of the game Abingdon were awarded a free kick that somehow managed to get redirected by a combination of Abingdon’s forwards and Cholsey’s defence beyond the post to safety - a close call. Cholsey continued to press in Abingdon’s half for the last few minutes but a break by Abingdon combined by a delay in the keeper to come off his line allowed Abingdon to score and win the game.

Tyler Dixon was Cholsey’s Man of the Match.
