A MAN accused of raping a woman with learning difficulties in the centre of an Oxfordshire town has been cleared of all charges.

Musa Camara maintained his innocence throughout the four-day trial at Oxford Crown Court.

Yesterday, jurors took just 108 minutes to acquit the 22-year-old of rape, a serious sexual assault and sexual assault.

The 23-year-old woman who made the claims told the jury she was approached by Mr Camara in Witney High Street on June 30. Giving evidence, the woman said she tried to get away from the man by going to the nearby Marlborough Hotel but said she was followed by the defendant.

However, CCTV footage showed Mr Camara leading the way and the woman following, and later showed them holding hands as they strolled through the town before having sex on land close to the River Windrush off Witan Way.

Mr Camara, originally from Gambia and now of Burwell Drive, Witney, initially told police he had not been in the town that day, but later admitted having consensual sex with the woman after DNA evidence linked him to the scene.

Jurors also heard the woman, who cannot be named, had made a similar rape claim in June 2005, when she said she was attacked in Waitrose car park in the town.

A man was arrested and admitted having contact with the woman but denied having sex with her. He was released without charge.
