A HEAVENLY helping hand may have led to this week’s winner of our Face in the Crowd competition win the big £75 prize.

Rev Tony Rogerson, 73, is a semi-retired clergyman from St James the Great church in Radley.

He was at Oxford United’s 3-1 win over Shrewsbury at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night, when our cameras picked him out.

And yesterday he came to our offices to claim his prize.

Mr Rogerson said: “I was at the match with my son John and grandson Sam.

“We go to all the games, as both John and I are season ticket holders.”

“I always read the Oxford Mail after United have played, but I usually just skim over the ‘Face in the Crowd’ picture. But I noticed the hat and thought ‘that looks a lot like mine’.

“I was very surprised.”

Mr Rogerson said he would be splitting the money with his son and would spend the remainder on some books he had his eye on.

He said: “It was a good game, and this just makes it even better.”
