Sir – I am delighted to read Nicola Blackwood MP’s letter (January 6) commending the Surviving Winter Appeal. She mentions its website but many pensioners do not have computers.

An easier way to contribute is to call at the Town Hall with your cheque book and fill in a form at reception. Or one can just phone 01865 556404 (or 798666 in office hours).

There are many well-off pensioners in Oxfordshire. I hope that most of them will contribute to this new appeal. Cuts in local services always have a much more severe effect on the poorest people. But the better-off can help to reduce the effect of cuts.
