FIREFIGHTERS cut off the roof of a car to rescue two women after a crash in north Oxfordshire yesterday.

A silver Volkswagen Touran and a black Peugeot 207, pictured, crashed at about 7.20am on the B430 Northampton Road near Weston-on-the-Green, just after the crossroads for Kirtlington, Chesterton and Middleton Stoney.

The two women, who were in the Peugeot, were taken to the Banbury’s Horton Hospital but were discharged last night.

A passing motorist said firefighters cut off the roof of the Peugeot to rescue the women and the people carrier had damage to its front.

Traffic was backed up in both directions while recovery teams cleared the wreckage and police worked out what happened.

Fire crew group manager Edward Murphy, based at Rewley Road fire station in Oxford, said: “Removing the roof was in agreement with the ambulance service to make it easier to remove the two trapped individuals from the car without doing them any further harm.”

Anyone with information about the crash should call Pc James Holstead at Bicester Roads Policing on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
