A woman with learning difficulties was led off the street and raped in Witney, a jury heard.

The 23-year-old woman, who has “learning and communication difficulties”, said she was approached by her attacker in Witney High Street and led to land by the River Windrush off Witan Way.

Musa Camara, of Burwell Drive in the town, denies rape, a serious sexual assault and sexual assault.

Sam Mainds, prosecuting, told jurors at Oxford Crown Court yesterday: “On June 30 last year this young man was hanging about in Witney High Street and you see the way he meets up with this young lady.

“He saw her, he talks to her and eventually they walk off away from the town centre. They come to a spot by a park and he rapes her.”

Mr Mainds said Camara, 22, was arrested on July 2 and initially denied being in Witney that day. He later admitted he had slept with the woman after his DNA was found on swabs taken from her.

Jurors were shown a video of the complainant’s police interview in which she said Camara sat down next to her on a bench in the town centre and began chatting.

The woman said she tried to get away by going to a pub, but was followed in by Camara who bought a drink and sat next to her.

She said the defendant then led her by the hand to the park by the river and checked to see if anyone was looking before touching her, lying her down and then having sex with her.

“I told him to get off,” she said, “He ignored me.”

The trial continues.
