Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman had her bag snatched in Oxford.

At about 3.15am yesterday, an 18-year-old woman was walking along Leopold Street when she was aware somebody was following her.

A man approached her, snatched a clutch bag from her hand, and ran away.

He was about 6ft tall, in his early twenties, skinny, with broad shoulders. He has a spotty complexion and was wearing a black Nike hooded top with a white logo on the chest, a black beanie hat, black tracksuit bottom and black trainers.

PC Rebecca Froud said; “The man simply ran up to the woman, snatched her bag and then off towards the Cowley Road.

“I appeal to anyone who was in this area of Cowley in the early hours of Sunday morning and saw a man matching this description to contact police.

“I also urge young women to not to walk alone at night, try to stick with your friends on a night out to not put yourself in a vulnerable position.”

Anyone with information that could assist police enquiries is urged to contact PC Froud via the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police, and don’t want to leave your name, contact Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
