COMMUTERS are getting an increasingly raw deal on the trains to London.

The latest figures for over-crowding show two of the services from Oxford and Didcot are among the most appalling in the country.

Meanwhile First Great Western – which runs seven out of 10 of Britain’s worst services, admits its punctuality is not getting any better either.

Yet this month’s fare rises mean Oxford commuters are now paying more than £4,000 a year for the privilege of being carted off to the capital like cattle on their way to the slaughterhouse.

For many there no chance of a seat, so it’s standing room only for around four in every 10 commuters.

FGW effectively shrugs and blames infrastructure.

Where’s the accountability?

There is no safety limit for the number of people on trains and compensation is far from automatic.

And any significant increase in rolling stock is tied up in the delay over electrification west of Didcot.

Yet passengers are forking out a huge amount of money to get to work and they deserve comfort and reliability. Treating your customers with such contempt is just shameful.
