To all users of large Supermarkets: beware.

Earlier this month. I bought a few items from a store in Oxford.

Several items saved money if bought in pairs and the receipt showed the individual savings. However, other items showed a lowered individual shelf price with the previous higher price crossed out.

A cost saving I thought, until I payed and found that an even higher price than the original one had been charged.

A member of staff made excuses that because of the VAT rise, the prices should have gone up on January 3, but, because they had to change the shelf labels of thousands of items, some hadn’t been done. Although they gave me back double the amount of the error, which is standard company practice, the amount hardly made up for my wasted time rechecking the prices and queuing to get them corrected – some 35 minutes.

It also begs the question of how many people check their receipt, especially if they are doing a larger weekly shop?

Staff attitude to customers over a problem that existed days after it should have been corrected was also poor, and showed up poor management skills.
