With all the talk of cuts, it’s interesting to see once again that both government and council cuts are aimed at those in most need and least able to afford them, and not those who caused the problems in the first place – the bankers and politicians of all parties, including councillors.
Locally, we have the city council attempting to force through plans for a wind turbine which many people believe will be useless.
We have the leader of the county council saying we must all help ourselves more, and asking for ideas on how to save money. But when it is suggested councillors cut their own expenses and allowances to help out, many do not want to know.
As if to show their total disregard for the public, they tried to hold the meeting to discuss the cuts behind closed doors. So much for openness and transparency.
Until politicians stop thinking of themselves and their own well being and take a serious interest in doing their best to help the country, we, the tax payers, have no chance.
So much for democracy.
