A BREAKFAST show radio host made his son call in under an alias to take part in a competition, it emerged last night.

Dale Collins was presenting the Quizroads section of his Banbury Sound 107.9 morning show when he got the 17-year-old to take part.

But suspicious staff at the Warwickshire-based station complained to managers, who called media watchdog Ofcom to investigate the incident in October.

Last night the station’s chief executive vowed the incident will never be repeated.

Ofcom found Collins, who has since been sacked by the station, was in breach of broadcasting regulations.

Collins originally launched the station in 2006 as Touch FM and later acted as director of programming.

Station owners Quidem, which had bought the station on October 1, told Ofcom Collins had “admitted that he had constructed and broadcast a fraudulent entry to the Quizroads competition.”

However, they said he felt it was “editorially justified” because he had been unable to make contact with a genuine entrant.

Quidem chief executive Steve Orchard said: “When it became clear there had been a breach of regulations we dismissed him.”

He added: “We believe it was a one-off incident which certainly won’t be repeated.”
