NOW that bin collections are beginning to return to normal after the devastating seven-inch snowfall which laid on our roads and pavements undisturbed, untreated and under our feet for well over a week, it has not escaped my attention that some areas have been more inaccessible and untreatable than others.

While hilly Banbury had bin collections largely back to normal quite quickly, extensive areas of wholly flat Kidlington did not see any bin collections for 10 days or more.

Is it somehow more difficult for heavy bin lorries to move on flat ground in Kidlington than on hilly streets, side roads and cul de sacs in Banbury?

Or, perhaps the closer a street is to council offices and councillors’ homes, the easier it is to serve them?

We have frequently had a Banbury-biased view of Cherwell district and its services from Cherwell District Council but never in the field of human waste recycling has there been such a blatant disregard for fairness to all residents of the district.

I eagerly await an explanation from our council which will not include the hazardous main roads between Banbury and Kidlington, which were functional throughout the period, nor will it include the difficulties of delivering waste to the waste centres which were receiving Banbury’s waste during that time.
