IT MIGHT look like a scene from mid-winter, but the first picture was taken in mid-April 1966. Snow made driving conditions difficult in West Way, Botley. Note the sign indicating that traffic was entering Berkshire – the transfer to Oxfordshire was still eight years away.
Wolvercote Boys’ Club – now Wolvercote Young People’s Club – has always been a hive of activity. In the second picture, Alan Howard receives weightlifting instruction from long-serving leader John Kempson in 1989.
Headington Women‘s Institute celebrated its 45th birthday with a party at Highfield Parish Hall in 1963. Mrs O West, a past president, is seen in the third picture cutting the cake. She is pictured with secretary Mrs RJ Dunfield, left, and president Mrs HM Alexander.
