I had to write in response to the letter on cyclists (ViewPoints, December 1) ignoring red lights.

Myself and my toddler have nearly been cycled in to many times on Cowley Road by ignorant, dangerous cyclists.

They show absolutely no regard for ‘road rules’ or the safety of pedestrians. It’s bad enough making sure the cars have stopped at a red light let alone cylists too.

I have to admit I can’t help telling them my opinion of their arrogant stupidity, in a rather loud voice. But not once have any of them turned their head, acknowledged or reacted to the fact they have just ‘run’ a red light or that they could’ve have easily injured me, my son or any other poor individual unfortunate enough to be crossing the road at that time.

They even carry on cycling when we’re half way across the road.

Surely the fact that all the other traffic has stopped, the crossing is beeping and there are actually people in the middle of the road might suggest that a red light is showing.

I also have to admit that 99 per cent of these cyclists are young men and women. I just don’t understand their stupidity.

God forbid anything happens to my kids while they are trying to cross the road safely, using the crossing properly and waiting for the ‘green man’ like they have been taught. The selfish arrogance of a few really ticks me off.
