A MAN has been arrested after a suspected stolen car crashed into a wall in North Oxford.

The driver, 26, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford with serious injuries, including a fractured pelvis, and was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated taking a car without consent.

Police believe the car, a silver Honda, had been stolen from outside a house in north Oxford earlier in the day.

The accident happened at 7.15pm on Sunday in Carlton Road, Oxford. Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the man,

Pc David Hodsdon said: “I would like anyone who saw the silver Honda being driven at any point before the collision, as well as anyone who saw the actual collision, to come forward.”

Neighbour Sarah Lefevre, 43, said: “It’s normally a very quiet area and to have something like this happen on a Sunday night is the last thing you expect.

“I didn’t see the accident, but you couldn’t miss all the sirens and flashing lights from the emergency services.

“It looked quite shocking. I have no idea what happened but I hope nobody was badly injured.”

Another resident, who asked not to be named, added: “It looked very serious.

“The firemen had to cut somebody out of the car, which is never a good sign.”
