JURORS are today expected to begin deliberating in the trial of two men accused of trafficking women for prostitution.

Anastassios Papas, 42, of Iffley Road, East Oxford, is charged with five counts of trafficking women within the UK for sexual exploitation; conspiracy to traffic women within the UK for sexual exploitation, controlling prostitution for gain and converting £67,075 of criminal property.

Another man, who cannot be named, denies conspiracy to traffic women within the UK for sexual exploitation; two counts of trafficking women into the UK for sexual exploitation and trafficking women within the UK.

Delivering his closing speech yesterday, prosecutor Neil Moore said: “It’s a very grubby and sordid business, the subject matter of this trial, isn’t it?

“Whether we’ve heard it all or just scratched the surface is perhaps open to debate. It really is a business which preys and thrives upon the vulnerability and fears of others.”

Jurors had previously been told Papas used the alias Mark White and ran the “Fun Girls in Oxford” agency.

The prosecution also alleges the unnamed man then brought women over from Romania to use in his own agency known as “Hot Fun Girls in Oxford”.
